/MUSIC VIDEO + TRACK: KID CUDI, STEVE AOKI & TRAVIS BARKER – CUDI THE KID

When musical geniuses (“genii”?) the likes of Kid Cudi, Steve Aoki and the drummer from Blink182, Travis Barker work together, things generally go great or terribly. This time, I would definitely say the former – a dubstep-eque track, with nostalgic vocals from Cudi, live drumming from Barker, and electro-fueled producing by Aoki make for a strange, but extremely  enjoyable track. The video is just the same.

Here is the track if you were thinking about grabbing it:

/MUSIC VIDEO: BENGA – I WILL NEVER CHANGE

UK dubstep heavy-weight and a central part of the original generation, Benga released a track a while ago titled “I Will Never Change” (in a awesomely blatant assertion of I-don’t-give-a-fuckery in the face of bass music’s latest trends and evolutions). As with all music genres and categories, bass music has grown far-extending branches and combined with all sorts of other things, resulting on the one hand in its inevitable popification; and on the other in its heavyfication. Although Benga has experimented and included evolutions and experiments in his music, producing genre-breaking tracks such as “Electro West” (with fellow dubstep father Skream) this track is simply his testament to the fact that there is still a huge spot for the original generation sound of bass music.

Benga straight up disregards new moves to lighten and popularise the sound by the pop influence, and the attempts at trying to make the sound heavier and more extreme. Keeping true to the original elements of the genre, the track is complemented by an awesome music video, produced by Liz Kessler and directed by London studio Us.

/MUSIC VIDEO: LARK & HAEZER – BRAVE

South African indie and electro big guns Lark and Haezer have teamed up to create quite a genre-smashing original track under Onion Records. But to be honest, even better than the track, is the music video. Written, produced, directed (and pretty much everything else’d) by Tevan Baitz with help from Topher Henry; the video just shows the potential that South African creative media has.

Here is just the track:

/MUSIC VIDEO: GOTYE – EASY WAY OUT

Belgian-Australian musician who’s recently gained much popularity due to the widespread commercial success of his song “Somebody I Used to Know”, Gotye has just released the brand new music video to another of his songs, “Easy Way Out”. Directed by Darcy Prendergast of Oh Yeah Wow, the stop-motion video took over 9 months to film using a badass 360 rotating rig. Awesome.

/MUSIC VIDEO: DOCTOR P & FLUX PAVILION – SUPERBAD

Long time dubstep legends Doctor P and Flux Pavilion have teamed up yet again to bring something pretty sick to the table. With the power of their collaborative effort – Circus Records – behind them in this track, it was bound to get some attention, so the video itself is pretty fitting. “Superbad” brings its own sense of bad-assery, and the video just visualises it all without fault.

Enough talk, enjoy the vid:

/MUSIC VIDEO: DANGER MOUSE – TWO AGAINST ONE

When artists on the level of Danger MouseDaniele LuppiJack White and Norah Jones team up, something incredible is bound to happen. And just like that you have “Rome” the album, featuring “Two Against One“. One awesome, awesome track. And as if that just isn’t enough, they somehow managed to top it off by complementing it with one of the (if not the) best music video yet released in 2012.

/MUSIC VIDEO: BLOCKHEAD – THE MUSIC SCENE

This is a truly epic visually trippy and generally psychedelic music video, directed and animated by Anthony Francisco Schepperd, to Blockhead‘s track “The Music Scene” off their album by the same name.

Not quite sure what genre of music this falls under but its very rad; and the video is perhaps even radder.

Not to compare, actually wait, screw that – let’s totally compare. Here are two versions, or rather the original and a cover, of the Arcade Fire song – The Suburbs.

The original, by Canadian indie sensation Arcade Fire was released in 2010 and gained quite a large following in both the indie/alternative and commercial scenes.

Here’s the original Arcade Fire version:

Then came along Norwegian songstress by the name of Monica Birkenes, known as “Mr. Little Jeans”, and decided to do her own cover, giving it a new spin and different vibe altogether. There are two videos for her version, the first is her actual video:

And the second is a different video featuring Alessandra Ambrossio:

So, I’mma let you guys decide which song and which video you prefer, feel free to comment!
